CHANEL JOUES CONTRASTE IN 'VIVACITÉ' (88)

Vivacité (88) is one of two brand new, limited edition Joues Contraste (Powder Blush) shades released as part of the Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet Spring 2014 Collection.  [Click here if you want to see my review of the new Perfection Lumière Velvet Foundation].  The other shade is Canaille (89) - a warm copper gold.  The latter as can be seen swatched on Jayded Dreaming looks rather beautiful and unique, but I am wary of such ultra warm cheek colours on my skin tone so I have skipped it.  I do wonder how it compares to Nars Taj Mahal - perhaps the latter is more orange.  If you know, please leave a comment below. :)

Vivacité is described as a 'vibrant magenta'.  There may be many blushes around described "like that", but to me, it isn't that common due to its level of vibrancy and depth.  I'd describe it as an uber-bright orchid pink (in line with Pantone's colour of the year, too).  It's medium to dark toned so as follows, can easily be worn by those with medium to dark skin tones, but with caution to get the slightest amount, I'm sure it would look just as beautiful on paler skinned beauties (a la fresh-faced J Crew model ;-) ).  But, because of its depth of colour and intense, 'true-to-pan' pigmentation, it's a must to apply with the gentlest and smallest dab to begin with.  Once or twice (if I'm keen), and voilà!  An absolute joyous, blue-based pop of colour on my olive, tanned (~NC35) skin tone brings my face to life. :D  Beware that if you use the coarser, natural bristled brush (like the one included) that it might kick up a bit of powder if you work it in too much.  I prefer to use a good quality, natural, ultra-soft brush like my Suqqu Cheek Brush or Rae Morris #22 Pro Powder Brush (review to come).  Consistent with the rest of the Joues Contraste range, this one is just as easy to blend.  You will have no issues if you have a light hand. :)

Packaging
Sleek black lacquer compact, which is very lightweight and has a mirror on the underside of the top lid.
Above: the product description label on the bottom of the compact.
Above: the product itself and the included little natural hair brush applicator.

Swatches
Comparison Swatches
Above palettes and their respective swatches below from left to right:

- Estee Lauder Signature Silky Powder Blush in 'Plum Nuance' (60)
- Illamasqua Powder Blush in 'Thrust'
- Chanel Joues Contraste in 'Vivacité (88)
- Chanel Joues Contraste in 'Ultra Rose' (74)
- Chanel Joues Contraste in 'Pink Explosion' (64)
Estee Lauder's Plum Nuance probably comes the closest although the Chanel's Vivacité leans quite a bit more pink and is more vibrant.  If you were a fan of Plum Nuance, which has been discontinued then Vivacité might take your fancy - perhaps even more.

Longevity
On my combination skin, this wore well for 8-10 hours on me with only slight fading, which rarely happens for a powder blush!  I used Le Blanc de Chanel Sheer Illuminating Base and the Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet Foundation underneath.

Scent
All the Joues Contraste blushes have a fairly strong, but beautiful rose scent, which disappears after a while.

Availability
Available now for a limited time in Chanel counters in Australia.

Bottom Line
This blush makes me intensely happy and will no doubt, help brighten my skin and spirits during the colder months.  I urge you to snap it up before it's gone for good.

Hope this was useful.

Thanks for stopping by! ^_^ xo
