ESPN has announced that a Captain Marvel special look will be aired during the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 7. Recently voted one of the most anticipated movies of 2019, Captain Marvel will introduce Brie Larson as the titular hero, expected to be the most powerful superhero to enter the MCU to date.
Marvel is being very cautious when it comes to marketing the superhero blockbuster - and particularly secretive. In fact, the studio still refuse to even confirm what characters some of the stars are playing. Although it was initially reported that Jude Law was cast as the Kree hero Mar-Vell, Marvel's refused to officially confirm that, and as a result many believe he's actually the Kree villain Yon-Rogg. The Disney website was recently updated to identify Law as Mar-Vell, but was swiftly edited, making it look like an error by a member of the PR team.

Hopefully, a hint or two will soon be forthcoming. ESPN has announced that new Captain Marvel content will air at the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 7. This is becoming something of a tradition for Marvel Studios' advertising campaigns; exclusive footage of Black Panther was aired during the football game last year as well. It's important to note that this probably won't be a trailer, just another (hopefully extended) TV spot. Recent TV spots haven't exactly dropped a lot of clues; in fact, they've mostly recycled footage from the first two trailers. Hopefully this will be a little different, with Marvel continuing to build hype for the film.
Captain Marvel is an important movie for the MCU. It's expected to be an important step on the journey to Avengers: Endgame, with Carol Danvers already confirmed to team up with Earth's surviving heroes. Presumably, she'll be a key player in the battle against Thanos; given the power levels already shown in relation to Carol's "Binary Form," she'll truly be a force to be reckoned with. The prospect of Captain Marvel teaming up with Thor is particularly exciting.
At the same time, though, the film is also essentially a backdoor origin story for both Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, two of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most notable agents. According to the trailer, Fury was on the verge of quitting S.H.I.E.L.D. when he crossed paths with Carol Danvers, and she will serve as his inspiration. No doubt that will also explain why he's convinced the Avengers Initiative is the only way to save the planet from threats like Loki, the Chitauri, and Thanos.
