I think buying minis in large packs is a good way to expose oneself to new products without breaking the bank, because one gets so many colours at once, and also because lip balms actually last forever in the hot and humid climate of Singapore.
I can understand why the standard size fresh SUGAR lip balms are so huge. But the huge ones are simply redundant here.
On to the review!
fresh SUGAR Honey Tinted Lip Balm Mini
Packaging
All fresh SUGAR lip balms come in metallic twist-open casings, that are colour-coded. The Honey flavour one that I have here is coded copper, whereas flavours like raspberry are coded pink and some others purple.
The sturdy metallic casing gives the fresh lip balms a very classy look, but is impractical because one has to spend time twisting it open. I am unable to open this with one hand, which is quite a shame.
I cannot imagine using this in winter time because it means I'd have to remove both gloves to twist this open.
Colour
Honey is an earthy rose shade, that reminds me much of my favourite Rouge Bunny Rouge lipstick in Whim of Mine!!!
I guess RBR Whim Of Mine is a little redder, and of course does not have that watery finish that the fresh lip balm offers.
Anyhow, here is a swatch of the fresh SUGAR Honey lip balm.
And here is what it looks like on my lips. It is very nude because Honey is a flesh shade balm.
It is definitely pigmented enough to cover the darkness on my lips, but definitely not pigmented enough to replace lipsticks (that is not what lip balms are made for).
Effectiveness
As a lip balm, I am immensely impressed by fresh SUGAR. It is super nourishing, it is everything you expect of a lip balm, and more.
As a coloured product, I am also overwhelmed by the pigmentation. The fresh SUGAR lip balm definitely over-delivers on what it promises.
Cost
For $20 per standard size (huge), it is worth every cent, IF you don't mind living with one colour for at least half a year.
I prefer to change colours all the time, so I am very happy with picking up Christmas sets, when they come in minis. I have some 9 tubes of fresh SUGAR lip balms by now, and I am enjoying them to the max!
(I will probably do lip swatches of the other colours some day!)
Only Con
The fresh SUGAR lip balms do kind of melt a little in the hot climate in Singapore. So you might want to store them in cool dry places if you get many of them. And NEVER ever store them in your bag, and leave it in the sun/car. (I think this goes for all other lipsticks in general.)
Rating: 6/5.
fresh SUGAR has over-delivered on these lip balms even when it is so costly.
I think it is worthwhile in Singapore as it is so humid here that people seldom need lip balms. A tube will last you a long time. It is probably too costly if you run down lip balms in two weeks.
Great stocking-fillers!
