While I like the idea I cannot recommend this product. This fan is light weight and it has the ability to use batteries or USB. They arrived in the mail in great condition in a timely manner, but using them is a headache. First you have to wash the sponges, and then you have to measure out the exact amount of water. Only downside is that it isn't rechargeable although you could always use your own rechargeable batteries or use the USB jack. Overall a good buy especially with the summer heat coming up! This is what you call a personal fan. It's small and portable with strong cooling capabilities.
The whole water thing didn't seem to make much difference, as the air it kicked out was the same temperature with or without the sponge. I returned the item and bought a 36-inch tower fan for my office instead, and I'm happier with that. I bought this at the beginning of the summer and have been using it since. Works like a breeze and no problems yet.
It has a very attractive design, nicely constructed, and feels very solid. The cooling performance is great for a small hand held unit like this, however not like the air conditioning you get from a car a/c, but maybe 70%.
Within 2 minutes, it felt as if the air was being cooled by at least 20 degrees. Of course the further away you are from the vent, the less cool the air gets. It really COOLS! One suggestion I have for inserting the "filter" is, place it into the slatted cover first and then snap it closed. It fit in my normal-sized fanny pack with an extra set of batteries and the little water bottle, along with a small still camera and a Flip video camera. By midmorning my t-shirt was soaked and I had already wrung out my headband twice, so I found a little shade and fired this guy up.
I am always travelling and driving to hot places and it gets very uncomfortable sometimes, so my friend lent me his handy cooler and it has made all the difference in the world! I bought my own last week and I'm glad I did. I'd rather have a pink one but my boyfriend got me a blue. Anyway, I glad him bought me this, probably the only gift he gave me that I really use. The battery lasted a good 2 days before I have to replace them. You need to take the filter out and refill out but I find it easier to pour water directly onto the filter even with the lid on (the lid has a lot of holes to breathe). It would have been better if the air was strong so that both my girlfriend and I can share the cooling. It's simple but works! I bought two of these because we were attending our Grandson's baseball practice and games. Here in Texas the heat is unbearable.
